On Saturday May 24, start your day with Daytime Museum Access and Activations from 9 AM – 2 PM. Then, come back in the evening for an Exclusive Museum Event and VIP Experience from 4 PM – 7 PM.

Wrap up the weekend on Monday May 26 with a relaxed and intimate Coffee with the Waynes from 9 AM – 11:30 AM, featuring personal stories, coffee, and pastries.

John Wayne Grit Series Returns to the Stockyards

Join us on November 8, 2025 for the annual 5K John Wayne Grit Series run in the historic Fort Worth Stockyards! The course starts at the John Wayne: An American Experience exhibit and weaves through the cobblestone streets of the Stockyards to Trinity Trail where you’ll take in views of the downtown Fort Worth Skyline. This run benefits the John Wayne Cancer Foundation, and every step advances the fight against cancer. Bring the whole family… you won’t want to miss it!

Special Exhibition: The John Wayne Gun Collection, the Guns that Won the West

A unique collection of firearms from John Wayne films, spanning over four decades from The Big Trail (1930) to The Shootist (1976). This exhibition is a curated collaboration between John Wayne: An American Experience and the National Firearms Museum (NRA).

Object Highlights:

Remington 1861 New Model Army used by John Wayne in his first starring role, The Big Trail (1930).

Short-barreled large loop Winchester Model 1892 used in True Grit (1969), Big Jake (1971), Rooster Cogburn (1975), and The Shootist (1976).

Large loop Winchester Model 1892 carbine from True Grit and Rooster Cogburn (1975).

Mattie Ross’ Walker Colt used in True Grit (1969).
